I totally sympathize with Vachel here. He knows he’s the last one they should ask.
but, then again, maybe he was. :)

He’s a vulture! Of COURSE that’s his reaction.
Part of why animals are so funny is that when they are written like humans, we expect them to REACT like humans, but when they react as nature intends, it seems ridiculous.
Anyhow, little insight in humor there.

This was a fun strip both because it was interesting trying to describe such a simple task (“whistling” is the classic simple action which is so very hard to describe), and also because Dee’s results are such an easy result to have happen.

I actually like Vachel’s reasoning here. Yes, it’s cruel, but it is practical for correct sizing.

I did take the joke beyond the kernel of inspiration, but that “kernel” was actually inspired by my childhood…
Books: “Just let me finish this chapter!”
Games Outside: “Just one more game!”
Video Games: “just one more level!” or “But this is a high score!”
etc. etc. etc. etc.
it was fun taking the instructions for knitting and try to pare it down into one panel. “go ‘yo’” was my favorite.
Although someone wrote me, I forgot who, who tried to do the stitch according to my instructions and it came out looking like a triangular crepe.
When I wrote this, my girlfriend of the time had just taken up knitting rather enthusiastically. I did learn a few basic stitches myself even.
I realized there was some very fun territory to cover with knitting. :)

This strip was inspired by the many pieces of “expired” candy I’ve eaten in my life. Most smaller candy doesn’t even have expiration dates on the individual pieces. But I’ve eaten them all.
I’ve even eaten candy which tasted verrrry funny. Blame the sweet tooth. It’s much nicer than blaming the sanity.
