To quote Monty Python: "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries".

Seriously, I once took some English cheese with me on a student trip, and didn't refrigerate it for about 4 days. The British people present thought it was awful, but all the Continentals I offered it to thought it was lovely. :D

@Jill is totally right. I should probably back up a moment, I have nothing but love for France, it's people (those who I've met), how they've helped our country, and I even stayed in a small town there and was fed numerous excessively stinky cheeses I was told that i would hate because I'm American but loved. Seriously. But it's still a simple fact that most of our modern humor is based on the Brits who have a thing for French mockery. Yes? Yes. :)

True, Chris. :) But Americans shouldn't forget that the French were a big help to us during the American Revolution...and they gave America the Statue of Liberty. But I have to agree...I might be a food lover, but I still wouldn't want to eat some of those French cheeses! ;)

Because most of our modern sense of humor is based on British writing and performances, who have a long standing tradition of French mockery?

Anything which pokes the French is funny, especially their toe-jam cheeses and pretentious sauces. And they writhe so well when you do.
