I enjoy the experience of it, and feeling the power of the waves. What worries me is our NJ Shore tourists who have no idea how to handle a riptide. No matter how scary a riptide is, you have to ride with it as long as it carries you, don't fight the sea...you'll never win! It's the one place that soothes my anxiety (and when I was in the height of my panic attacks, swimming in it was the *only* time I felt anxiety-free) and fills me with contentment. Even when I almost drowned at about the age of eleven 'cause of a wicked bad undertow at the Outer Banks... I never blamed the ocean, that was my own ignorance at fault. ;) (It was my dad who saved me; he had a *lot* in common with Ted ^_^) The ocean has and always will be my Best Friend Forever. Red tides are worse for fish than air breathing humans. A few species of shark, some species of jellyfish, cone snails, some stingrays and floating, cast-off fishing nets. There are a few nastiest that humans seldom encounter except on purpose, such as the blue-ringed octopus, lion fish, stone fish, etc. Basically, if you don't go looking for trouble from sea critters, trouble seldom finds you. Shark attacks are pretty rare. Jellyfish are more dangerous. Most people who die in the ocean die from stupidity more than anything else.
