@Joyce - Hello fellow Oregonian. I'm over in Josephine Co. We had a German Shepherd Coyote cross that was the devil on a stawberry patch. The bird netting wasn't for birds, and needed to be staked down so she couldn't get under it. She was named Tansy Ragwort, after a field on my cousin's property over on Ketching Slough.

They calls it "field canning". Usually you try to pick as much for the bucket as you eat and you don't eat out of the bucket. It works best when you think of all those hot winter waffles covered with jam. At least that's how my mom got us to start contrbuting a majority to the jam making enterprise.

I have the reverse problem: every year I carefully pick loads of blackberries, planning to enjoy them when I get home, then I put some of them in the fridge and forget about them.

I always had the same problem Dee is having there! I'd set out with the Best of Intentions and Strength of Will: This time I was going to bring berries home! And every single time, I'd just eat those blackberries as I went along ;D

I used to have a dog that was an excellent berry hound up in Coos Bay, Oregon. She would find the best bushes and all the wanted was one good berry from each. One summer I picked several pails and made some wonderful berry pies. The dog got a slice of pie, too. :)
