This one is easy to field. They filled out the paperwork and handed it in, the rest were just grunts and nods. The being able to write as well as understand english, well... you kinda have to make a leap of faith. And a big part of the strip is walking down the lane of your childhood, where missing posters and messages in bottles are the ONLY way to do things. @Ronald, I spent years processing legal paperwork. I thought when he walked around in a suit it was just so people wouldn't notice that he was a bear and would thus more or less ignore him. If he can have conversations with humans, doesn't that sort of beg the question of why he doesn't just REPORT Dee as a missing child to the police, or whoever, instead of relying on homemade "missing" posters and messages in bottles? For that matter, why don't other animals in the Little Dee universe speak to humans about not wanting to be kept in zoos, raised for food, and so on? I know, I'm thinking about it too much...
