Not entirely clear on all the details of the relationships, but I also think of a British Army officer’s ‘batman’ for the ‘gentleman’s gentleman’. Stephen Fry has more recently done a charming sitcom ‘Kingdom’, as a barrister in a seaside town who straightens our everyone’s tangled lives around him (much like his role with the young Hugh Laurie’s Bertie Wooster!) Hear, hear!

Actually, he was a “gentleman’s gentleman”. More than valet or butler – everything combined into one!

And yes, Fry will always be my image of Jeeves. Some folks consider him too young to play Jeeves, but for me he and Laurie were perfection in their roles.
