Reminds me of an old Goon Show routine, a parody of a wartime radio drama. You hear the sound effect of dropping bombs, and then, "Great Scott, sir! They're dropping whistles on us!" Then the crackle of ack-ack. "Now they're frying bacon!" Yes, I’ve had the same thought.
