With the hole and the "dent", even the tree looks as if it's perturbed.

"How'd you like it if somebody picked YOUR apples?!"

Remember: Even as fearsome a villain as Dr. Doom is afraid of large numbers of squirrels.

You know, that speech is awesome no matter what kind of voice I imagine the squirrel delivering it in. ;-)

While wondering if the squirrel has a name (I'm sure he or she doesn't), it occurred to me that even some of the strip's major recurring characters don't actually have names: Alligator and Pudu, for example. Hm.

(on another note)

Squirrels may indeed be fuzzy and cute, but few people can get close enough to one to find out if they're warm and cuddly. Perhaps Blake's going on hearsay.

When you think about it, though, a horde of hostile squirrels might be nearly as terrifying as a horde of hostile rats, and the sheer WTH factor would be much stronger. Oddly, no horror film that I know of has tried playing this card. Kinda like "Night of the Lepus," really. Everybody talks about how ridiculous the notion of giant menacing rabbits is, but forget the rabbit part, they're giant menacing CREATURES. What were they, like thirty feet high or something? Suddenly being confronted by ANY living creature thirty feet high could give you a heart attack on the spot. It's one thing to see an elephant and quite another thing to see an elephant COMING RIGHT AT YOU...

I most often come across comic strip squirrels in "Overboard" (IMHO not a very good strip, but it's right there in the local newspaper's comics section*) where Louie the Dog (IMHO one of the LEAST likeable dogs in comic strip history, but that's just me) perceives them as pure evil OSLT. Blake's viewpoint is a welcome contrast.

*on a newspageful of strips, it's more trouble to single out a substandard strip to be ignored -- now that I think about it, singling out something to ignore it is sort of a contradiction in terms -- than it is to just read strip after strip and shrug off the not-very-entertaining ones as metaphorical background noise
