I know, but sometimes the math major in me just cannot suspend enough belief to let some things pass. Talking, intelligent animals? Sure. Flying bears? Not a problem. Melancholy vultures? Natch. Lost key with a wooden chair and a massively strong bear who could shatter the legs of the chair and extract Vachel safely from beneath, or simply pull the chains apart? I just can’t stand it. Too many disbeliefs in a row. My brain aches.

that’s funny, I read the “narration” as Vachel’s voice or his thoughts over the view inside the cave, as if repeating (ominously?) the end of Blake’s sentence. :)
