Also known as my "If you put as much work into finishing your homework as you do in arguing with me and/or making reasons why you couldn't do your homework you would have an 'A' in this class" speech. (To save time, when student "I didn't finish the homework because...." I just say, "Homework Speech." Although my students know I'm a fairly soft touch and they can usually get an extension from me.) It is interesting how people will put forth more effort avoiding a task than completing the task would require.
