Since mom was a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, we didn't even try that. She made dad breakfast in bed for his birthday and Father's Day. Dad always wanted meatloaf (and mom made a great one) for his two special days' dinners. On Mother's Day, we got our own breakfast and then took mom out for a really nice dinner out. We kids had to contribute saved allowance money for flowers and chocolates and dad ponied up for the dinner out on Mother's Day and her birthday. Small price to pay for the food we got the rest of the year from her chef's training. On Father's Day, dad was allowed to drink beer any time of the day, slouch around in his PJs all day if he wanted, and to read his Zane Gray novels or other books without interruption unless someone was bleeding (happened occasionally - we were an active set of kids). We had to go outside and play and not bother dad. He didn't shave, and he didn't get dressed the whole day. Mom got to slouch on Mom's day and her b-day as well. Until we got ready to take her out for her special dinner, she wore her housecoat, drank coffee (with the odd slug of bourbon), and watched what she wanted on TV or read. Dad rode herd on us and kept us out of her hair - or else.
