I went through in the "Full Metal Jacket" days. R Lee Ermey was actually a DI when I was in boot, but I never saw him there. Boot camp was pretty much just like that, too. That part of it was very real, except for a recruit like Pyle managing to lay hands on a full magazine of live ammo, that is. No way. Not in them days. My smart mouth got me into plenty of trouble, but sometimes it was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.
