Sliding down a hay stack was fun sometimes you wound up with hay under your shirt. The really bad thing was getting caught by your Dad. That hay is not for sliding I worked hard to get there.

During the Summer of 1977 my family lived on a farm and one of the things that we had to do was cut, bale, transport and stack hay. (And the bales weighed *80 lbs.* each!) Needless to say; in addition to the backaches we all got, we also came down with what we eventually referred to as "The Itch". (Hay dust can get into the *darnedest* places no matter how well you think you've covered up!) Luckily, there was a National Park nearby that would let us use their shower facilities to clean up. (The farm itself had running water for the sinks and toilet, but the owner hadn't installed the bathtub in the farmhouse yet.)

Apparently you never had a brother who used to hide "things" in the leaf pile.

Being of the suburbs, we raked our leaves into the street where they would be picked up. I tried jumping into a pile once, on the asphalt. ow.
