Grew up without it, liked it for a while. The end of Seinfeld was pretty much the end for me. Disfunctional goofy dads, inane twenty, thirty, forty somethings. They can keep it.

I've got better things like web comics, Top Gear, History Channel, Discovery Channel, Richard Hammond and other Sci/Tech shows available by anything but TV.

There are things on television that AREN'T PBS? Oh dear... {kicks shameless Cooking Channel addiction under the rug}

And Hugh Laurie is awesome. Although I don't watch the show, I would watch Doctor Who if he were the next Doctor.

To coin a phrase, TV is the opiate of the masses. Boy, Chris, for sweet innocent woodland creatures these animals seem to have a lot of both street smarts and, more importantly, money. I can imagine Vachel picking the pockets at car wrecks, but I don't think that's enough... (and I am kidding)

@War_Pig, sorry to hear you had a poor public school experience. I admit, it is a mixed bag, and i was fortunate to get a decent one.

@Efogoto, Ha! Don't we all. :)

I cut out TV over 25 years ago. I need the extra time to work on becoming a curmudgeon.

I watch mainly Discovery and its related channels (or PBS) when they have science or history show on. I LOVE "Walking With Dinosaurs" or anything which has prehistoric beasties in it. I've been a dino nut ever since I was a kid. As for network TV, nothing I can recall since Hill Street Blues. I also watch HGTV for the renovation shows. TOOLS! I seldom watch military shows after a lifetime in the service, as the ignorance of those who write those shows bores me to death. NOTHING that is allowed to be filmed about the Rangers, SEALs, Green Beret, etc is even close to the truth. I speak with authority on that subject. I bet you all think that the CIA took down Pablo Escobar, don't you? ;-)

But Dee can learn quite a lot from the television. Various science shows, such as the excellent"Through the Wormhole" (narrated by my favorite, Morgan Freeman). She'd have to unlearn a lot of what public schools teach children which is flat out wrong (even lies). Example: What was the name of Robert Fulton's steamboat? If you answer the "Clermont", as do most textbooks, you are dead wrong and were deceived as a child. But even if you show the teacher and principal the facts from the Bureau of Ships (It was called the North River, for short) they will still teach "Clermont" as it is in the textbooks; like dumb robots. So that is why my wife and I removed our children and home schooled them. TV is not the enemy of education, the public school system is making our children dumb and dumber.
