This is perhaps my all-time favorite Dee strip. Certainly in the top 5, anyway! The absurdity makes me laugh every time.

Yes. No seat belts, no bicycle helmets, no nanny state. We had merry-go-rounds, and "gasp" jungle gyms. Even teeter-totters and slides with no top cover! We played tag. Horrible! We played hide and seek, cowboys and Indians or cops and robbers. Boys brought cap guns to school to play on the grounds!!! We even had marksmanship class as an elective in high school - horror of horrors!!!!!!!!! None of us ever used a gun to shoot up a school or the neighborhood.

Yet we survived and were the stronger for it. Even the girls were tough. Nowadays a broken nail or a "bad hair day" is cause for tears. Boys today cry (and not just cry, they go into self-pity mode) for no real reason.

Nobody is allowed to tell them these days to shut up, stand up and get on with life because the world doesn't owe you a darn thing.

We need less Dr Spock and more R Lee Ermey.

I remember the "Let's tie the floaties to our feet so we can walk on water" experiments.

Sometimes I wonder how we survived childhood.
