I have a food mill which I use for the apple sauce, but if I want the apple peels in something I have been known to use a [gasp!!] blender. Though the hand cranked meat grinder (which I've never used for meat) also comes in handy on occasion.

In fact, I have a sesame nut dip I need to make for Friday. I usually run the nuts for that through the grinder; with all of the other ingredients to save mixing time.

Never tried to grind coffee that way. :/

@christopher--that's close enough, thanks! :) I make my pies that way too, actually; I follow a recipe for the crust, but I just toss in whatever sounds good for the filling. It usually works out well! @Muzhik--I'd recommend either a blender or a food processor, personally, though I imagine just using a knife would work; on a semi-related note, a cheap coffee grinder earmarked especially for non-coffee purposes is a great thing to have... The earmarked for non-coffee purposes is important, though; coffee oils are persistent, and otherwise you end up with everything tasting like coffee.

@Mel, I'm afraid i don't specifically. I actually haven't made a pie in an age. Generally I'd just throw in some sugar and maybe a little flour (or corn starch or some thickener) with the apples, then throw in blended apple peels, and mix.

Do you have an actual apple pie recipe in which you use the peels in this way? It sounds kinda awesome.
