Pete, I'm sure he appreciates the bacon development more than he would appreciate it if the man were cooking mushrooms. :)

You can observe cats doing this (some cats more often than others). Angles and kitty-skill allowing, they'll often jump up onto something _just_so_ and work it so that they're landing right as they hit the apex of their leap.

If you ever manage the trick yourself, it feels really cool. In a "that felt all _wrong_, but it made wrong feel _good_" kind of way. There's a "that's not what landing feels like -- WTH did I just _do_?" moment.

War Pig, the entire time you're off the ground, you're in 'free fall' -- not weightless but you don't _feel_ your weight because no surface is _pushing_back_ on you. But yeah, that moment at the top of your arc when gravity has killed all your upward momentum but hasn't replaced it with downward momentum yet, does feel extra 'floaty' if you have your eyes open.

And if it had gone slightly less perfect, at least the sled's in a perfect spot to serve as his tombstone...

Actually, I have taken a sort of trip like that, without the bacon at the end (lucky Blake). We were skiing and I got off course (I am lousy on snow skis) hit a hill and went almost straight up. I had just enough energy to clear the top and landed quite softly on my skis. When you're halfway between going up and coming down you are, in effect, weightless (microgravity, actually). Like the International Space Station. When you begin to fall you do so at about ten meters per second, squared. So if you are only a foot or two off your landing spot, it's like stepping off a bus onto the street. Imagine jumping up and down on a trampoline, and jumping hard enough to just barely clear the ledge you jumped from. Extend a leg and stand up.
