Having been watching my wife use a drop spindle for a few years now I still find myself amazed at how long it takes to make an actually usable amount of yarn. For one thing, after it is spun, then it must be plied; which means double or tripling the amount of yarn in any given yard of it. She figures one sheep's worth makes about 1/2 to 1/3 of an adult human sweater.
