I have found, over a modest length of life to date, that the opinions of most people mean nothing. When I realized that, I was much happier. I ignore them unless they go out of the way to antagonize me. Even then I usually just treat them with outrageous indifference unless they make things personal. I prefer, or rather, I CHOOSE to be happy go lucky, with a smile on my mug most of the time. I had to learn to let things go. I had to take the prayer to heart to change what I can, accept what I can't and learn the difference between the two. I had always dismissed that as a marketing poem to sell cards and lockets and plaques and such, but I found it to be profound in application. When I stopped trying to be responsible for the rest of the world I relaxed and found peace. I was able to forgive myself for things I had done in the line of duty. Although, I admit, when people act a fool in traffic and cause me to make panic moves, or when I bang my thumb with a hammer, I still have a propensity use Saxon language with great passion and fluency. ;-) As Sam Clemens once remarked, swearing can sometimes provide relief denied even to prayer.
