A hospital IS the last place you want to be. Medical mistakes in hospitals is the third leading cause of death in the USA (behind heart disease and cancers).

If you take death by all firearms, blunt objects, fists & feet, stabbing or other edged/sharp object and add in the deaths from all auto accidents. Combine them all, and they are one-tenth the rate of death by hospital medical error. Add in non-hospital errors such as missed diagnosis, wrong prescription or dosage, etc committed by doctors in their normal practices, and it would be truly staggering. Terrorists are a minor annoyance compared to the medical profession. So are drunk drivers and all murderers, including mass murderers.

In the year of 2001, even with 9/11, the medical profession still killed over a hundred times more people in American than all the terrorist attacks and other murders put together.

Sometimes I think we'd be better off with witch doctors. I was almost killed in a VA hospital when the nurses for the first three shifts, tried to give me the medicine of the patient who'd had the bed before me. I could have been killed three times if I had not been aware enough to ask questions about my medications. One of the medicines they tried to foist off upon me can put me in anaphylactic shock and kill me in minutes I am deathly allergic to it. If I had been very ill or unconscious and unable to ask pointed questions and refuse medication until they were answered, I'd be dead and nobody would know as the VA would cover it up.
