My brother and me found five Log Cabin Maple Syrup tins (not bottles) in fantastic condition when we bought a box of cans and tins for a dollar. In one of the tins were ten gold coins. 1869 gold dollars. Back then worth a lot less than now plus they were nicked up a bit, but they still bought my brother and I each a brand new car back in 1969. When I go looking for treasures on purpose I never find anything. I have made a tidy sum over the years of reconditioning old cast iron cooking pots and pans. Then I found one: The Beatles ("butcher cover") autographed by George Harrison, for 25¢. That one album paid for a year+ of my college education. Others I've been to had items that you could get at a local store for less than at the "sale"! Gotta be careful or you get ripped off! I only look for things I may want in my home or as gifts. I do buy quite a few old tools - and use them or give them as gifts to those who like them. And old cast iron cooking utensils, too. Even when in very rough shape they can usually be brought back into serviceable condition with patience. When I go to antique (junk) stores, flea markets and yard/garage sales I never look for diamonds in the rough. I only look for things I may want in my home or as gifts.
