		<description>As I recall, the Shao Lin monks developed Gung Fu to a) defend themselves from bandits when out ministering or begging (as they were [are?] a mendicant order): and b) to defend themselves from the various local Imperial bureaucrats and warlords who tended to want to eradicate them because at times they rivaled the Government in power.</description>
