Got glasses in 9th grade, when the English teacher wrote something on the back board in three-foot letters. Nothing there until I borrowed glasses from the kid behind me. We went for testing that week. Didn’t keep me out of USMC, nor NESEP, but now it’s trifocals, *Sigh*.

@JP Kalishek: I didn’t need them until I hit 60. I still only need reading glasses, no bifocals. I actually had sniper vision as a lad. USMC and US Army Rangers. Used everything from an accurized M-14 to the Barrett .50 caliber. I can still hit anything I can see, I just can;’ see quite as well as I usedta.

I got lucky in a backwards way with my eyesight — I’m extremely nearsighted in one eye and extremely farsighted in the other, but the sharp image always overrides the blurry one, so I’ve never needed glasses.

I hate not having that “sniper” eyesight of my youth.
I started needing reading glasses around 41. My dad made it to 52 before he needed “Arm Stretchers”

I know how the hawk feels. :) I’m astigmatic and it wasn’t until I got my first pair of glasses that I realized that comic books weren’t nearly square.
