"Idiot mittens" - what a nice name. Older siblings, anyone?
Actually, I guess my German has an accidental gap in spite of knowing and having had some of those.

Actually, knitters make idiot mittens all the time - for our children, grandchildren, husbands and others who have trouble keeping up with their hand coverings! I'm making a half-dozen pair as Christmas gifts.

Heh, I remember my own idiot mittens when I was a wee sprat. Don't have 'em for my kids 'cause I'll just cheerfully knit 'em a new pair when (yes, it's already happened ;D) they lose one of a pair! Mittens are a remarkably fast knit which helps. ;)

Hey, I've always had my own idiot mittens/gloves. I have a bad habit of losing gloves out of the pockets of jackets when working outdoors and when taking them on/off multiple times to do things which require touch. So I clip them together with a strap with a heavy clip on each end and run it through my sleeves. No more gloves missing or a sodden mess in a pile of slush.

They were so popular in the Army that several guys had me make them for their use in the field.
