At least THIS way, you get all the … interesting … ideas out on the table first. Makes it easier to recognize and adopt the more … practical … ideas. Because, let’s face it, if we start rejecting the interesting ideas to right away, they start to look more practical once you start running out of practical ideas. That’s how we got the TARP banking program. And kangaroos.
Yup; a fine young HP facilitator we had at the first CSDC meeting in Santa Cruz (1985) described it (IIRC) this way.
Put everything up on the board (no kvetching or sniping allowed), then start discussing and deciding what’s a need, then a want. Tally the votes by each element, and before you know it, a decision becomes clearer, if not obvious.
