   Laurel & Hardy were good, too, and I don’t believe you’re old enough to remember Harold Lloyd. They occasionally run some of his old silents and early talkies on Turner Classic Movies. The Keystone Cops were also masters of slapstick.

   That is a good one, Muzhik. I like The Sin of Harold Diddlebock with Harold Lloyd. And anything by the Marx Brothers or Monty Python. Charlie Chaplain was great in slapstick, and people overlook Shakespeare as a great slapstick writer. A Comedy Of Errors was hilarious. The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer was loaded with physical comedy, so as humans we have loved slapstick and other forms of physical comedy for a very long time. Probably from the very beginnings of human humor, many millennium ago.
