Panel 3 still cracks me up. Also, it was great fun coming up with a ridiculous premise to put in the last panel.
I equate this strip to returning from a camping trip. Everything is dank and dirty and a wreck, which is the perfect moment for a little escapism. :)

And Dee going over to hug Ted because she sees that he’ll have to float in the cold dark water breaks my heart every time even thought I’m the person who wrote it. <3
I was never sure if this joke was completely clear, that it was Ted’s buoyancy created from pastries (among other things) which caused them to float.
Either way, it’s the tense moment along with Vachel’s nonchalant comment int he first panel which makes this strip for m.e
Funny, I’ve been reading quite a few dystopian novels recently, and there’s usually some money/power-grubber still looking for ways to make a quick buck right up ’til the end.

It took me ages to figure out how to do a week about “V Zine,” although a long while down the road I did. But it did tickle me that his evidence was a pulp trash magazine he self-wrote.

There it is, the “fetch” joke again. But only used when it felt perfect, as it did here.
