This is one of those strips that crosses the weird line, of the fact that we eat eggs, but if animals talked to each other, eggs would be the precursor to being their children. Which makes it super funny in my eyes. :)
Heck, panel two simply makes me laugh regardless the context or rest of the strip.
Oh, and get your orders in for gifts to the Little Dee Topatoco Store NOW (including the entire Little Dee book set, posters, shirts, totes, etc), the shipping deadlines to meet the holiday are passing quickly!

As a child I remember that when everyone came over for Thanksgiving, that the puzzles always came out. Puzzles create great opportunities for not having to talk (and still be a part of things) for those moments when you need that.
One of the things I enjoyed about writing Ted is his understatement. he could’ve flown off the handle at vachel, but setting another place at the table is such a quiet statement, which says EVERYTHING he wants to say.
Heh. And Blake with the tofu.

Okay, polar bears are north pole, penguins are south pole, so of COURSE if penguins drove this far north it would be enticing for the polar bears to get in their triumph and seek the penguins out.
I tried very hard to have almost no product placement in Little Dee, but I felt okay about this one. I did do the research, both the stats about penguins and which minivans out there (at the time) were most friendly ot the environment.
I think I came up with this idea in discussion with Dylan Meconis, basically the plan was to come up with the most ridiculous idea i could come up with, and then spend the week trying to write myself out of it. :)
I really enjoyed drawing the last panel, which was in the running for possible covers for book #1.
And this is yet another way to exploit the “fetch” (as you can see in the tags below) device with Blake, in a way which felt fresh and fun. Oh, and horrible. :)

I totally sympathize with Vachel here. He knows he’s the last one they should ask.
but, then again, maybe he was. :)
Come on by the NEWW comic convention this weekend, in Easthampton, MA. I’ll be at the Topatoco table!

I did take the joke beyond the kernel of inspiration, but that “kernel” was actually inspired by my childhood…
Books: “Just let me finish this chapter!”
Games Outside: “Just one more game!”
Video Games: “just one more level!” or “But this is a high score!”
etc. etc. etc. etc.
