And Dee going over to hug Ted because she sees that he’ll have to float in the cold dark water breaks my heart every time even thought I’m the person who wrote it. <3
I was never sure if this joke was completely clear, that it was Ted’s buoyancy created from pastries (among other things) which caused them to float.
Either way, it’s the tense moment along with Vachel’s nonchalant comment int he first panel which makes this strip for m.e

It took me ages to figure out how to do a week about “V Zine,” although a long while down the road I did. But it did tickle me that his evidence was a pulp trash magazine he self-wrote.

There it is, the “fetch” joke again. But only used when it felt perfect, as it did here.
Despite things working out well for the three and their picnic, and that I would have been as gung-ho as them, I’m still with Vachel in that the difference is perhaps very mightily thin.

I admire children when they get this stubborn. But there often comes that line, when it’s finally time to carry them home by their sled because reasoning is over.
Or maybe not. My minimal parenting experience is probably quite naive. Perhaps many are much more apt at imposing reasoning upon the obstinate child.
