I think this sort of thing is largely based on personality, but Vachel is the sort who lets you know how he feels. Bottle it up, and the dam bursting will just be all the worse.
Ted’s like me, he can let things go. Brings things up when they feel important enough. Very New England perhaps. Hrm.

Oddly, I think this strip may have been political, referring perhaps (although I don’t recall for sure) to the Bush administrations reasoning for going to war. Hrm.
Anyhow, in my world, it is all about cupcakes.
I am always horrified when I’m joking and it actually upsets/scares/fools someone. But when it’s fiction, I find it totally funny. :)

Of course, there really was no inner debate in her head. Live with adults she doesn’t know, or with a loving fuzzy bear, a dopey kind dog, and a funny vulture. A real no brainer.

I was trying to go for a bit of a “zoo” feel here. Them watching the humans in their natural environment.
I’ve actually often wondered why they don’t have a housecat house at any zoos I’ve been to, filled with stuffed chairs, windowsills, and ceramic busts on the fireplace; it would even offer a good job for a cat lover to just sit and pet them all day.
Anyhow, i digress.
Ted seems very casual here. I don’t think he’s quite developed a full attachment yet.

I think this strip was a bit of dream fulfillment on my part. Growing up, I LOVED school supplies, art supplies, and office supplies.
I always found this strip particularly dark and cynical. But I do think, as sweet and clever as she is, Dee is a very physical child, and hitting a tree with a stick, to her, is a fine idea.
