When I hear someone say “you don’t want to do that,” I know that very often they actually mean “I don’t think you should do that because I certainly wouldn’t want to.”
Which is why it’s good to know yourself. :)
When scripting “Little Dee” I really enjoyed the little details such as Blake saying that they “talked WITH frogs” rather than “talking TO frogs,” because in their world, frogs, of course, talk back.
I think Virgil was mentioned once or twice more. Hm.
Anyhow, this is something I try to be conscious of, whether on the phone or just in conversation, that if I’m talking about gross or not all-ages etc topics, to try to be conscious of those around me (eaters, kids, etc).
This is the exact kind of obtuse argument my brother and I would make as kids.
And GrapeEnvyGuy just emailed me, he and his wife just made Vachel ornaments (with knitting too!), with an accompanying poem. So sweet, check them out. :)
In general I’ve historically been against having guns in my comics. Bruno because it was a reflection of real life, and I just don’t ever encounter them in the circles I run in. Little Dee, because I feel they go against the grain of the innocence of the strip.
But, I felt it worth it for this joke, and I felt it came out okay. Maybe because it in no way was represented as a threat, even jokingly, to anyone.
Yes, i sometimes overthink things.
