7/2/09 - Potluck was cancelled this weekend for (fill in long explanation here), but I had the ingredients to make a chelan cherry pie, and so I did. It was the first time I did a proper lattice, actually weaving in and out the dough strips. Meditative after a stressful week, and was yummy - always important.

6/26/09 - One of the first comic strips I ever drew (which I still have a copy of back east in storage) is from elementary school, of a dog named "Mikey Jack." He sported one white glove and said silly things which matched lyrics written by Michael Jackson, whose death yesterday reminded me of that early comic.

I think I only drew three strips, not particularly funny, and I never listened to much of Michael Jackson, but he was an icon and totally pervasively so especially after 1982 when "Thriller" came out. Anyhow, he was odd, and it's kinda odd that he's dead. And then there's the big question: who now owns all those Beatles songs?

6/25/09 - It's very breezy today, and the windchimes have been jingling all day.

I never did follow up Friday's "rain hat" picnic. We found a park with a lake in the woods, and it started raining, quite steadily. No place to sit, no cover. And the loop back went on and on, up steep hills and down more, eventually not even sure it looped back to the car, in mud, rain, and both of us laughing. We picnicked on the dining room table.

6/20/09 - It's actually 4:42pm on friday as I write this. I just finished tomorrow's strip, and am now off to have a dinner picnic with Beth up on the shore near the Edmund's ferry. Looks like a rain hat may be in order, but luckily I own a very very red one.

6/16/09 - Had a lovely weekend. After the Olympia Comics Fest, Beth and I caught a light dinner and then had drinks with Dan and Leslie, who always make me laugh and think, a good combination. Sunday morning Beth and I went birding with Nick (I spotted a bittern, and so I owe Nick a donut. Ah, birding). Beth and I then wandered the farmer's market, caught lunch, and went to potluck where I attempted again to make blueberry pancake cookies, which were very yummy but didn't taste how I wanted, and so I must try again.

Her's a view of the leaves above the hammock where Beth and I lay with the sun setting towards our feet.

5/27/09 - Two quick things.

1. I created a Little Dee group on facebook.

2. Book #3. I'm working on it. Hopefully off to the printer within the week, and to you by sometime in August.

3. Posters, I'm working on them. A bunch of 'em. And per popular request, I'm also making one of the nurse strips last week.

5/26/09 - I drew an additional strip to add to last week (you'll find it in the archive, but probably not in the next collection). My girlfriend is a nursing student, and I wanted to do a strip for her (last week all sold), and plus she mentioned it would be funny to do one about the zillion acronyms that are thrown around the medical field. Here you go, sweetie!

And then... day of forgetting. Oye.

So, yesterday I forgot to put the Dee cast in their "off to interact with the human world" outfits. And so I drew clothing on them, which you'll see has been corrected in the archive.

I also forgot to mention Memorial Day. Without an office job where I'd have holidays off, and with no real wall calendar, I sometimes forget the events going on around me. So, let me just say, may those who have fallen, rest in peace. What horror and sadness is war.

5/18/09 - Another Sunday has rolled around (I write these blogs the day previous, so they are up when the strip updates, but I date them the day they're posted). The sun has finally returned (on most days) and the reason that most people enjoy living in the Pacific NW is upon us. Hello, warm and happy summer.

I found a bicycle on craigslist (for $30! yay!), so now I can bicycle back and forth to Beth's house, and maybe join her on the trails when she roller skates 25 miles. I was out walking this morning and someone had set out free spider-plants starters in pots, so now I have a new plant. Tonight I will go to Olympia and make a pie, laugh with friends, drink and laugh and brainstorm with Dan (and maybe Leslie), and then return on the bus, Monday morning, tired and silly.

5/5/09 - Ah. Today's strips was going to read "twenty digit delimitation" which rolled so nicely off he tongue, but then I remembered that in the Little Dee cartoony world, she has 16 digits. And I couldn't write that because it'd be totally weird. (I still like the punchline a lot, strange as it is).

Happy Cinco de Mayo. And condolences to the French and all that.

5/4/09 - Sunday night at potluck I made a peach pie with a egg/flour/sugar/butter custardy like goop mixed in. This pie was a fine one, which I mostly credit to the lovely peaches.

4/28/09 - Freelance has slowed down a bit here. If anyone needs something drawn, or knows or works for a company which freelances with illustrators. Please, drop me a line.

Also, despite money being a tad tight, at Stumptown I just HAD to purchase a copy of Bite Me! by Dylan Meconis. Yes, true, she is a friend, and I like to support my friend's endeavors, BUT... it is EASY to be supportive of friends when they release books like this. I love this comedic story of vampires during the French revolution, and her finally putting it into print made me very happy. I just re-read it, and it lives up to my memory. (if you're pressed for moolah, the whole thing is also online).

4/23/09 - So... hm. Explanation of today.

Of all the lovely things to happen to me, I have a girlfriend (Beth!), and we've been together for a bit now. This is a happy thing. Sadly, a member of her family has fallen gravely ill, and we've taken a sudden trip to North Carolina through the weekend. I will most likely be able to post every day, probably the finished strip. But today was a plan-travel-all-day day and we arrived in the hotel past midnight, and this was all I was able to really finish on the plane. I'll do a finished version as soon as I can.
