He’s a simple bear.
I think this background comes from a vague memory of the old watermill in Bernardston on River Street just off of Church Street.
It reminds me of a time, in high-school, when I was removing a fluorescent light from a light in order that it not get knocked out from the party which was going on. I dropped the bulb. Sigh.

I enjoyed drawing the poster-version of Dee, and also the idea of intead of “lost dog” posters, “lost Dee” posters.
I couldn’t do a zoo without a penguin follow-up. It was also admitedly fun with playing the line between horror and humor… hopefully I landed on the side of humor. :)

This was a strip that came VERY close to making some serious commentary on society and our criminal justice system, luckily Vachel saved it with levity by noting that certain inmates need haircuts.
