And it has been this way for a very long time. Most human artifacts found are near rivers, lakes and such. American Indians let their junk wash downstream, too, as did Aztecs, Mayans, Ancient Chinese and Egyptians, Greeks, etc., on back to UGH the caveman. Humans eventually learned not to poop upstream from where you washed and drank, but that was about it, I’m afraid. Ancient Japanese and Chinese used to poison wells and drinking streams with mercury and other nasties.
The basic term “Throw it AWAY” comes from the same root. We’re only beginning to learn that we’re on a finite planet.
If we survive the next century, we may be getting a handle on cleaning-up our nest, INCLUDING the oceans that were considered a sink for, well, everything.
Now seafood is becoming scarce (not to mention Weird!), we may start to notice it’s not infinite either. Gosh, I feel so Green saying all that…
