Of course, aesthetically, what Vachel is saying is reprehensible. But I must admit, especially when traveling, that sometimes I despair bothering to take many pictures of popular places, as the postcards are often so much better.
Of course, the I can BE in the picture, and it is a picture I took, proving I was there. Perhaps that is why I would put a photo but not a postacard in my photo album.
Yeah, I never get my own pictures to look as great as the view that I was trying to capture. I need to have a professional photographer follow me around on trips like that.
