Vachel’s “non answer” I think came my own practice of using it as a teenager. Very useful…. as long as the parent (or Ted) don’t notice. ;-)
Ted might want to just opt for plausible deniability in any situation involving Vachel and a tank.

If Ted were to ask, rhetorically, where a little girl in a forest might acquire a tank; I’m certain that a different line of responses would be obtained.
I sincerely doubt a mob of angry librarians with nothing more than crude cudgels and bad rap lyrics was chasing a main battle tank. Most likely the other way around. “Fleeing in terror” and “chasing” are mutually exclusive terms.
