“Bonzai!”: A traditional, small (but perfectly formed) Japanese salutation. Literally, “Tray years!” (“May the years of your life be as perfect as a lacquered tray!”)
Are you sure you’re not talking about the type of miniature tree? (Bonsai) “Banzai” is a cheer that means “Ten thousand years“. (i.e. “Long life”) It only later gained infamy during WWII.
“Bon sai” is “Tray/pot plant”. “Ban zai” is “10000 years”. “Bon zai” is therefore logically (if, presumably, rather ungrammatically) “Tray years”.
Jokes never work when you have to explain them.
