Most hotels seem numbered fairly logically, but some…
VA hospitals are also numbered and arranged strangely. At one VA hospital, to get from one clinic to another on the same floor in the same building, you had to take an elevator down three floors, walk across the hallway to another set of elevators, take it up one floor, then get out and walk about 100 feet, then take another elevator back up two floors. Then, treatment rooms at the clinic were not numbered consecutively, so that room 7 lay next to room 14 with room 2 across the hall next to room 11. I think all this was an Alzheimer’s test or something. If you could manage to get from clinic A to point B and find the correct room, you were mentally sharp.
Maybe it’s a way to ensure continued employment for folks at the front desk who have to give careful, detailed directions to visitors.
