Vachel has an excellent point. it’s one of those saying which has a lot of truth in certain circumstances, but in others, you are indeed setting yourself up to fail.
Well, that doesn’t really work at all in this case because Dee *does* love Ted and Blake and Vachel yet she’s staying with her parents and thus ISN’T coming back…
Notice that even Vachel knew better than to remind Ted of the continuation of that adage which begins “If they don’t come back…”
But you must set them free. Freedom is an absolute good, the reason we are all here, the loftiest aspiration and yet the foundation of all of us as individuals: We can pick and choose. We are not restrained. Except by the cravings of our hearts.
Letting go, giving freedom, may in fact bring nothing more to you. But it is the basis of all that follows, no matter what happens. You must cherish their freedom at least as much as your own, even if that takes them away from you. It is what we are all meant to be.
