Also while staying in Reno, we had Canadian Geese (I know, some folks insist it’s “Canada Geese” but my dictionary says both are acceptable) constantly milling about the property. Pretty and also kinda messy and honking. They make me laugh.

Funniest thing I ever saw was Canadian Geese flock landing on a iced-over pond in Michigan. The landings were comical. Geese slid and crashed into each other causing all sorts of squabbles and fights as pissed-off geese chased and nipped at the offending geese that crashed into them. All this while they slid around on an icy pond. Absolutely hilarious.
They migrate over our house going South and North, and overnight in large ponds a block away. They are magnificent flying over, and landing & taking off, but once they are here! The noise! The poop!…..Captured really well here Chris!
Around here they’re known as “Sky Carp”.
The official English-language name for the species Branta canadensis according to the American Ornithologists Union and the American Birding Association (both of which are accepted in Canada) is Canada Goose.
They still can be kind of nasty, especially the non-migrant populations.
@CRM, well, it seems that the American Birding Association and Oxford American Dictionary need to sit down and have words. :)
The problem here at the Jersey Shore is it seems the Canada Geese have lost their migration instinct – between golf courses and office parks; they’ve found a paradise of sorts here for them, so why leave? And the humans are faced with tons of poop and their eating up our lawns. :( They’re also nasty-tempered, so don’t get too close!
