   Good thing the burglar breaks into your home and not mine, then. Entirely different outcome. In fact, I am sure Vachel would approve. For me to let a criminal go, he’d better have three starving children waiting outside for the food he was stealing.

   ‘Bus fare’ never ends up being 75 cents. It tends towards $40 and up. Which makes one wonder if you are being conned. Sometimes they don’t have a good story though and it is easier to tell. Unfortunately, cons, criminals, or beggars are rarely next to their need for you to verify, the criminal steals more than he needs and ruins more, and the con is set up to keep conning all day. Throw drugs and alcohol in the mix and things are not as wholesome as giving a man a meal, which is why I like McDonalds gift certificates.

   @Muzhik: I’d make a LOT for Vachel to feast upon. .45 ACP works like a wonder.

   @TheTechnical: I wind up getting it in shopping center parking lots. “My grandpa and me ran out of gas and we need to get to XXXXX” or; “I have to get to the hospital my wife and son were in a t-bone accident do you have gas money?” Of course, if I offer to take them to the hospital, they turn and leave. Sometimes I just flash my reserve deputy sheriff badge and then they run. I think fake begging should be punished by public stocks.
