This one goes out to all my friends who are parents. Don’t worry. You can pick up where you left off in 18 years.
Is this the first and last reference to Ted’s penpal? Or do we later learn who his penpal is?
I don’t remember seeing any other references to Ted’s penpal… but then I have the memory of a mother of 4 boys…. 2 of which have not yet passed the 18 year mark ;)
I’m pretty sure they are never mentioned again. But it has been 6 years, so I may have mentioned them in passing again in the remainder of strips left.
No, it isn’t over even then, because soon you’ll have grandchildren to babysit if you’re lucky.
As my grandparents used to say; “If I knew having grandkids was going to be this much fun, we’d have had them first.”
Your grandparents are authors Gene Perret and Lois Wyse?
“grandchildren to babysit if you’re lucky”
That sounds really subjective to me. Especially the combination of “babysit” and “lucky.”
I like kids as long as I know there’s someone else nearby to actually take care of them. But, hey, some people don’t like kids at all.
After the divorce, I thought it was an eighteen-year sentence.
Found out later, it’s ‘eighteen-to LIFE’!
Daughter #2 came back after her truck wreck (titanium up the back, diabetic, no more Class-A license, out of settlement funds, no work), and Daughter #3 hasn’t found enough work to ever leave the nest- at 28!
