Do they even MAKE idiot-mittens for kids anymore? Or simply clip-ons?
For any who are unfamiliar, it is a pair of mittens with a string connecting the two which you run through the sleeves of your jacket. Thus, if you pull one, the other one will be pulled.

Hey, I’ve always had my own idiot mittens/gloves. I have a bad habit of losing gloves out of the pockets of jackets when working outdoors and when taking them on/off multiple times to do things which require touch. So I clip them together with a strap with a heavy clip on each end and run it through my sleeves. No more gloves missing or a sodden mess in a pile of slush.
They were so popular in the Army that several guys had me make them for their use in the field.
Heh, I remember my own idiot mittens when I was a wee sprat. Don’t have ‘em for my kids ’cause I’ll just cheerfully knit ‘em a new pair when (yes, it’s already happened ;D) they lose one of a pair! Mittens are a remarkably fast knit which helps. ;)
Actually, knitters make idiot mittens all the time – for our children, grandchildren, husbands and others who have trouble keeping up with their hand coverings! I’m making a half-dozen pair as Christmas gifts.
my mittens were always separate, so this strip was the first time I got any explanation of the idiot mittens phenomenom
Hey, how come Ted isn’t dressed up like a human? Won’t they get caught?
“Idiot mittens” – what a nice name. Older siblings, anyone?
Actually, I guess my German has an accidental gap in spite of knowing and having had some of those.
These days they have those interesting hats with built in scarf, and gloves, all animal/character themed
