Y’know, this makes me wonder how many people would buy plushies of the LittleDee characters. I think I’d go for a Vachel, sit him next to my Tux and Opus.
I like the idea of plushies! And I was just picturing a bumpersticker that reads “Have You Hugged Your Vulture Today?” :D
For some reason I’m struck by the fact that the Alligator addresses Vachel simply as “Bird.” He could reasonably respond, “You know, I *have* a phylum.” OSLT.
Apropos of nothing, a group of vultures is apparently called a “committee,” a “venue,” or a “wake.” Maybe that’s Vachel’s problem with socializing, he just hasn’t found the right venue…
Oooooh I would totally buy a Vachel plushie…
for some reason when people say Vachel plushie. I keep imagining that scene where Vavhel picks up one of the penguins off the ground and hands it to Dee. Then tells her it’s a super realistic penguin doll.
I checked and there are several vulture plushies on the market, but there the ultra-realistic animal sort

I have a small one in my bedroom. It is a visual reminder of the state of my sex life.
@charles, those are all excellent plushies, wow. Sadly none that really look like Vachel.
Yeah, I did the research, and even starting molding a prototype, of a vachel statue. But (based on book sales, etc) I didn’t have the market to commision that many, and so the price was too high, so it never got done.
He was going to be eating a hotdog, modeled somewhat after the Notre Dame garrgoyle.
I could see a soft-ish plastic statue of Vachel with his wings raised in a squawk, wearing his librArian shirt with an inscription on the base; “Overdue AGAIN?!” or something else witty. What is that plastic they make statues from which is not brittle? Plasticine? Solid Vinyl? So cool. I’d get one for a librarian I know, who already loves the shirt and bought one after I introduced her to the strip, if it was affordable. I teach ESL and I see her fairly often.
